Correspondence with Carl Zigrosser, 1939-1941, n.d.

Jerry Bywaters was a printmaker working in Texas, and associated with the Lone Star Printmakers. This correspondence rests on Bywaters' prints and Zigrosser's interest in the magazine Southwestern Arts and in Texas printmakers. Included is a long letter from 1940 in which Bywaters tries to characterize Texas art for Zigrosser, the letter concludes with a biographical statement by Bywaters. Bywaters also read the Texas portion of Zigrosser's book, The Artist in America, and offered suggestions on the text. The book was then excerpted in Southwest Review.
